Out of all the musical genres that I enjoy, old school R&B and soul are two of my favorites. Give me some Marvin Gaye or Al Green. Stevie Wonder or Lionel Richie. R Kelly, Donell Jones, Babyface. It is the music of lovers. The sensual grooves. The smooth vocals. Putting words to all the emotions you feel about your lover. Give me a quiet evening filled with candles, wine, my husband and some R&B and…well, lets just say that it will be a night to remember. I feel that there has been a lull in these genres for a while. Thankfully, the songs I love are ageless. But it has been a long time since I heard a new artists fall among these greats. Until tonight…

Dondi released his new album Imagine That earlier this month and this girl couldn’t be happier to have these songs added to her collection just in time for Valentines Day. Dondi has all the class of his predecessors but with a fresh feel in the mix. When you listen to this album you are reminded of reasons why these genres are here to stay. Love is one of the greatest emotions a person can experience and Dondi has captured that with all the elegance needed to stand with best. He has found a balance between paying homage to R&B & Soul and his own unique style. Its pure magic. As I dove deeper in to the album, I found myself moving with the music and imagining every line he wrote. Imagine That is visually beautiful and, excuse my expression, damn sexy.

So, hit play and grab your lover. It’s time to dance. It’s time to let the music flow between you both as you fall in love with Dondi. The world could use a little bit of love right now. Our lives could use more reasons to enjoy our lovers. Enjoy this album until the neighbors start complaining.

Extended Plays is an ongoing music series of all the music that I stumble upon. I listen to the music, go with my gut and spill my honest and sometimes brutal opinion all over this blog. I hope you take the time to check out the artists I review for yourselves. I tend to believe that I am always right about everything but the most beautiful thing about music is that my opinion doesn’t matter to anyone but myself.
