For every new generation of preteen girls there are new boy bands for them to fall in love with. The Jackson 5. New Kids on the Block. Boyz II Men. Backstreet Boys. N’Sync. Hanson. Jonas Brothers. One Direction. These musical groups have almost become a right of passage for young female fans. Its that stage right before they want to start wanting to wear makeup. Its the stage right before they start paying attention to boys. For a parent, its a very scary time. But for that little girl, this is the first time they are truly starting to understand what they like as an individual. It’s their first experience of the outside world. And its the true test of whether or not they can carry a tune along with their favorite songs.

Tunes like this one. Kisses for the Road. I heard this song for the first time last spring and it immediately worked its way into my brain and made a home for itself. I have found myself humming or singing it randomly throughout the past few months. It’s catchy. The beat is contagious. The chorus is the perfect ear candy. Young ladies all over the world are falling in love with it. Who are these 3 young boys singing and dancing along? They are The Gore Boyz. TGB. Born and raised in Gastonia, North Carolina, these 3 brothers have been performing since 2009. Herman (16) begged his parents to allow him and his two brothers, Edwin (13) and Sean Michael (11), to be in their school’s talent show and the rest is history. Since then, they have recorded 2 hit songs, TGB Handclap (Superman like Cam) and Kisses for the Road, recorded with Grammy-award winning Theron “Neff-U” Feemster, and performed all over the country.

These boyz are more than just performers. Not only do they maintain stellar grades and a heavy extra-curricular schedule, they are very active in their church and their community. TGB has won first place in 2012 and 2013 for the People Choice Award and first place for the 2013 Judges Choice Award as a part of Run for the Money. They turned around and donated their total $2250 prize to Rhyne Elementary School in Gastonia, NC both years. Feemster’s father, a pastor at a church in Kings Mountain who knew The Gore Boyz, told him more about the group.

“My dad briefed me on how beautiful the family was and he told me that this is a group that I should pay attention to,” said Feemster, who also co-wrote some of the tracks on Bieber’s “Purpose” album.

Feemster wanted to write and produce a song for them. He assembled a team of writers headed by singer/songwriter Gabrielle “Goldie” Nowee. The Gore Boyz flew out to Los Angeles to record the song at Feemster’s studio. At the time of this article, that song has almost 400k views on YouTube. It has literally been the song of the summer. Kisses for the Road is just the beginning of the road for these boyz. Their talent is balanced by their huge hearts and generosity. It is because of this that they have a killer and devoted team behind them.

Extended Plays is an ongoing music series of all the music that I stumble upon. I listen to the music, go with my gut and spill my honest and sometimes brutal opinion all over this blog. I hope you take the time to check out the artists I review for yourselves. I tend to believe that I am always right about everything but the most beautiful thing about music is that my opinion doesn’t matter to anyone but myself.
