Heather O’Neil Has released a single for the song aptly titled Nicotine and Neon. The Irish born, Chicago raised singer-songwriter already has a growing following that is loyal to her fresh sound. Featuring her melancholic vocals and a bass line like a hit from The Breeders, I was won over from the first kick.

The chorus takes a step up with just enough guitar to give the high point a razor cut. The lyrics tell the story of want and anxiety while maintaining a pop appeal. That’s not easy. Heather has a rare ability to tell her story both through lyric and arrangement. The listener feels what she feels. I can’t wait to hear more.

Extended Plays is an ongoing music series of all the music that I stumble upon. I listen to the music, go with my gut and spill my honest and sometimes brutal opinion all over this blog. I hope you take the time to check out the artists I review for yourselves. I tend to believe that I am always right about everything but the most beautiful thing about music is that my opinion doesn’t matter to anyone but myself.
