Of all the musical journeys I have been on, some of my favorites are the ones that take me back to my roots. When the road opens up and you find yourself in familiar worlds. Folk music is that home for me. Growing up listening to John Denver, Simon & Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell and James Taylor has led me to fall in love with musicians like Mumford & Sons, Iron & Wine, Bobby Long and now, Matt Townsend. He recently released part 1 of a 2 part EP series called The Drifter and the Dream and this fan was instantly hooked. It is exactly what I needed in the moment I heard it. Real. Raw. Lyrics that spoke to me in ways that I haven’t heard in a while. Matt’s style has a warmth to it. His music has what it felt like growing up in America. Everything that this country should always remember. Nostalgia. Summer. Family. Friends. Life. It is a beautiful collection of songs.

But don’t take my word for it. Listen to it below and when you love it, you can purchase it on his BandCamp page.

Make sure you check out his website for all things Matt Townsend and follow him on his social media outlets.

Extended Plays is an ongoing music series of all the music that I stumble upon. I listen to the music, go with my gut and spill my honest and sometimes brutal opinion all over this blog. I hope you take the time to check out the artists I review for yourselves. I tend to believe that I am always right about everything but the most beautiful thing about music is that my opinion doesn’t matter to anyone but myself.
