Randal Branham has been playing music since the age of six. His new album Simple demonstrates his mastery. The album is a soulful pop piano journey reflective of Randal’s innermost feelings of love, sadness, growth, and thankfulness. Never one to be boxed in by genre, Randal explores different tempos and arrangements fitting to the emotion of the song.

The album begins with the uptempo jazz piano track Simple to Extreme. This is by no means the only toe-tapper. Randal’s lyrics are clear and expressive. Wonderful is an uplifting track of joy. One would immediately think of Billy Joel when it comes to Walking, the story of reflection and what is to come. Man to Man is an anthem of pride and love that has brought Randal much acclaim for his direct message of acceptance. Who is this Lady is a stirring soulful ballad of thanks. The next track takes a turn down another road. Your Shinning Love is resounding with a powerful orchestration of piano and rock that make this ballad big. Randal brings us back to the intimate and soulful with the next two songs Dreams and Slow
Dance. Go Out is peppy in its expressive itch to do just as the title implies. Mystical and dreamlike, Fly Away is an experience for the ear. Touching Down brings a beautiful arrangement that is fittingly followed by the depth of As Much and Last Hour.

The last two tracks are reimaginings of two on the album. The first is an acoustic version of Touching Down that is beautiful. Ending the album is a club remix of Man to Man that is sure to be contagious for fans of the dance scene.

To be an artist is to be brave with expression. With this album Randal Branham is courageous.

Extended Plays is an ongoing music series of all the music that I stumble upon. I listen to the music, go with my gut and spill my honest and sometimes brutal opinion all over this blog. I hope you take the time to check out the artists I review for yourselves. I tend to believe that I am always right about everything but the most beautiful thing about music is that my opinion doesn’t matter to anyone but myself.
