As an Alumni of The University of Montana I would like to extend my congratulations to J.K. Simmons Oscar win last night. J.K. Simmons became the first University of Montana alum to win an Academy Award for acting. Simmons won Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars for his performance as the abusive conductor Terence Fletcher  in “Whiplash”. This is the first Oscar nomination and win for the 60 year old actor and 1978 University of Montana music graduate.

Simmons won the Oscar over Ethan Hawke (“Boyhood”), Robert Duvall (“The Judge”), Edward Norton (“Birdman”) and Mark Ruffalo (“Foxcatcher”). Myself and Griz Nation are proud of you J.K. Simmons. Enjoy the win and congratulations!
