2018 looks to be a good year for Cordova. The band has opened for many nationally known acts including Drowning Pool, Puddle of Mudd, and Hawthorne Heights. Now comes their newest release Runaway Summer. The four-song EP delivers from start to finish. Intense in grooves and lyrics, Cordova is at the peak of their power.

The album explodes with the opener Hiding. Smacking from the first crunch, the lyrics are powerful and delivered flawlessly by lead singer Oliver Charity. The guitar work is impressive and the band as a whole must be acknowledged for their ability. The groove changes are seamless. The best part is that this is only the first song. It gets even better.

These fears of yesteryears seem as though they’re here to stay ahead of me. – Oliver Charity

Up next is the anthem Summer. The vocals scream through the radio-ready chorus. It’s catchy and rebellious.

Let’s run away for the summer and not know what to do with ourselves.

The third track is Trigger Happy. This is another radio-ready beauty. Beginning with a lone rhythm that builds to a groove. That ability to create a groove is what makes Cordova stand out.

Weighted wraps up the record. From the first strum, there is contagious funk. The lyrics are deeply confessional. This is my personal favorite on the album. The tantric sound adds to the feeling of inner struggle.

Everytime I open my mouth the words don’t come right out. Always stuck in my head with the screams and shouts.

This album is a great listen. Every track is executed to perfection. Cordova is very good at what they do. I hope more people catch on.

Extended Plays is an ongoing music series of all the music that I stumble upon. I listen to the music, go with my gut and spill my honest and sometimes brutal opinion all over this blog. I hope you take the time to check out the artists I review for yourselves. I tend to believe that I am always right about everything but the most beautiful thing about music is that my opinion doesn’t matter to anyone but myself.
